This year’s New Zealand Orthopaedic Spine Society (NZOSS) meeting is returning to Black Barn Vineyards, in the Hawkes Bay. This is an intimate venue perfectly suited to our yearly academic meeting where we discuss and debate issues relevant to the provision of spinal care in New Zealand.

This year we plan to return to the traditional NZOSS meeting format, focusing on case discussions and debates on hot topics as well as research presentations. We are fortunate to have two international guests attending. Dan Riew (Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Columbia University Medical Center, NY) is familiar to all NZOSS members as a world expert in cervical spine surgery. His academic contribution is matched by his famed articulate presentations.  Mkhululi “Mac” Lukhele (Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, SA) provides vast experience in the areas of spinal infection, paediatric deformity and osteoporosis with insights into the provision of spinal surgery in South Africa.

We hope family members will be tempted to attend, attracted by the surrounding world class landscape, markets, wineries and golf courses. The Saturday evening dinner will be hosted at the stylish, rustic Clubhouse at Cape Kidnappers. Accommodation at Black Barn is spread over 17 unique luxury properties, ranging from 2 to 4 bedrooms. Attendees are encouraged to take the opportunity to share with colleagues and friends making for a more friendly and sociable occasion.

We thank our co-sponsors, NuVasive and Pioneer Medical LTD for making all these opportunities possible.

It promises to be an enjoyable occasion. I look forward to seeing you all there.
